ANKESTAMEN AMERICAN CABERET STYLE BELLY DANCE WITH LEBANESE FLARE -

I BREAK THE MOVES DOWN TO THE VERY BASIC LEVEL FOR EASE OF LEARNING - 15 YEARS TEACHING EXPERIENCE - I TEACH AGES 7 TO 70 OR MORE.

Learn 4 to 6 basic belly dance moves every lesson. Learn to work veil, floor, and zills. Everybody come for fun and fitness.

Beginning Choreographed Routine
Sahara Caravan
(Desert Knights No. 5)

Fast
Music starts, wait 4 counts, Step kick enter (start on right leg) 12 steps
Half moon (right leg) starting count on front hip drop - 8 times, change legs (back step) (8 counts)
Half moon (left leg) starting count on front hip drop - 8 times (8 counts)
Feet together, hip thrust (starting on right side) 8 times each side (8 counts)
Lean kick (starting on right hip, lean - kick right, lean - kick left) (4 times each side) (8 total counts)
Hip shimmy 7 fast-counts, turn left on 8th count
Hip shimmy 7 fast-counts, turn left on 8th count
Hip shimmy 7 fast-counts, turn left on 8th count
Hip shimmy 7 fast-counts, turn left on 8th count
1-,2 front, 1-2 back with shimmy (shake), starting on right right leg, (count is 1-,2 front and 2-2 back (8 counts)
Sit kick alternating (starting on right leg, sit kick right, sit kick left) (8 counts, 4 times each leg)
Step back, bounce right hip (lift and drop) (7 fast-counts, step back change 8th count)
Bounce left hip (lift and drop) (7 fast-counts, feet together 8th count)
Shoulder shimmy with a knee dip, 6 times (6 counts)
Spin right circle on 7, bow on 8

During this time you can do the veil or the floor, or some can do the veil while others do the floor. They intertwine with each other to be doing the same moves at the same time.

Veil
Prepare by standing parallel and getting ready for figure 8.
Figure 8, starting on left side 8 times (8 counts), repeat (7 counts)
Turn right to have back to audience (on the 8th count)
Hip lift slow while removing veil (8 counts, 2 times) (takes 16 total counts to get veil off)
Wax off Wax on - right side (8 total counts) (keep it slow, wax off 2 counts, wax on 2 counts) (be sure to bend at the hip, far over, both ways)
Wrap face while doing hip lifts (7 counts, 8th count turn right to face audience)
Head Movements – left, right, left, right (4 counts), around and around (5, 6, 7, 8 count), repeat
Shoulder rolls back (4 counts) – shoulder shimmy up (5, 6, 7, 8 count), repeat
Step right side – veil side wrap with stomach rolls (7 counts, change to left side 8th count)
Step left side – veil side wrap with stomach rolls (8 counts)
Pushy turn complete circle – turning right while moving veil around to your back (8 counts)
With veil in back - offset to left side, one leg shimmy left side (7 counts, 8th count change to right side)
Offset veil to right, one leg shimmy right side (7 counts, bring arms together on 8th count)
Two leg shimmy (8 counts)
Belly roll (4 counts), flutter (5, 6, 7, 8 count)
Pushy turn complete circle - turning right while moving veil around to your front (8 count)
Hold veil in front and figure 8 starting with left side (8 counts)
Belly roll (8 counts)
Pushy turn complete circle – turning right and toss veil at the back on 4th count, continue pushy turn to front (8 counts total)
Snake arms (2 sets of 8 counts)
Shoulder shimmy with dips (7 times) (7 counts)
Prepare for fast to begin.


Alternate slow:

Floor
Drop to Floor on back (turn sideways so left side is facing the audience)
Snake arms (start with left side) (8 counts)
Crisscross arms (8 counts)
Come up to sitting position, one arm to back, other arm behind head or circle hands in front of you (4 counts), belly roll (5, 6, 7, 8 count), belly roll (4 counts)
Both arms out in back, hips up (5, 6 count), hip thrust (7, 8 count), belly roll (4 counts) and flutter (5, 6, 7, 8 counts) (with head dropped back)
Sit up (2 counts), up onto knees with arms up (3, 4 count), turn to face audience with arms down (5, 6, count), down to sitting on knees with arms back up to head movement position (7, 8 count) (arms are actually doing a rising sun circle when sitting up, turning, then sitting down).
Head movements – left, right, left, right (4 counts), around and around (5, 6, 7, 8 count), repeat
Sit up to knees and shoulder rolls and arms backward (4 counts) – shoulder shimmy up (5, 6, 7, 8 count), repeat
Down to sitting position (2 counts) turn onto your left side (3, 4 count), up to ½ Cleopratra (5, 6, count) arm behind neck, starting to belly roll (7, 8 counts),
Continue belly roll (4 counts), belly flutter (5, 6, 7, 8 counts)
Lower body down (2 counts), prepare and come up to full Cleopratra (3, 4 counts), belly rolls (5 ,6, 7, 8 count)
Lower down (2 counts), turn sideways (so left side faces audience) (3, 4 count), roll arms while lying down onto your back (5, 6, 7, 8 count)
Tuck feet under so knees are up, hips up, hip thrust (8 counts) (arms together over top of head)
Belly roll (4 counts), belly flutter (5, 6 ,7, 8 count)
Hips down (2 counts), roll arms while coming up to sitting (3, 4 count), shoulder shimmy (5, 6, 7, 8 count)
Snake arms (start with left side) (8 counts)
Turn to face audience (2 counts), up to your knees (3, 4 count), arms above head with hands together, belly roll (5, 6, 7, 8 counts)
Hand waves (criss-cross) from above head to the ground (8 counts)
Leg out (2 counts), roll arms up leg (3, 4 count) and raise to standing position (5, 6, 7, 8 count)
Snake arms (start with left side) (8 counts), repeat
Shoulder shimmy with dips (7 times) (7 counts)
Get ready to repeat the fast (on 8 count)

Fast
Repeat fast, except:
At beginning step kick 8 times in place, then turn left, step kick (2 counts), left step kick (3,4 counts), left step kick (5, 6 count), left step kick (7, 8 count)
Towards end whin you do the 1, 2 with shimmy, 6 counts only, spin on 7, and bow on 8. (The bow consists of putting your hand on your heart when you bow (from my heart), standing and putting your hand to your mouth (from my words), and then to the forehead (from my mind), roll the hand off your forehead to the audience (I thank you).
Give the belly dancers "Zaghareet", pick up your veil (if you did the veil), and shimmy-run off the stage.
